2008-08-12                              Sunset To Be Reconstructed

Finally Sunset is to be rebuilt.  This project will consume the remainder of summer and fall and will include sewers, roadway and curb... the works.  For a short time, the project was at risk because of budgeting gamesmanship downstate, but it is back on and actual visible work should begin any day now.

2007 Campaign Blurb

All over town, everyone is concerned about the streets.  Certainly we have many streets that are in grave disrepair and long overdue for fixing.

Recognizing that fact, the previous Board came to us citizens for a sales tax increase, which we passed, and which is dedicated completely to streets.  That's a good thing, and many streets have already benefited from the reevnue.

In addition to that, I think we need to do the following:

  • Be more transparent about prioritizing those street repairs.  We should publish a detailed listing, showing when work is scheduled to begin and end and on what streets, even if it's only an estimate.  Furthermore, we should also include information on the reasons for which one street is prioritized before another.  When priorities change, explain why.
  • Place a higher priority on the north side of town.  Southsiders complain of too many streets torn up at the same time.  Northsiders wish they had that kind of trouble.
  • For the long-term, grow more sales-tax-producing business in the Village to ensure enough future revenue to stay on top of the streets.  This is another reason to place top priority on the north side redevelopment initiatives.
